No one knows just whose idea it was; to us, that's not an important factor. The important thing is that we are thankful for that someone who had listened to, and accepted the impelling 'go' in the gospel commission, thus paving the way for the lighthouse to be erected in Seaview Gardens.
It was a joint venture between the Hagley Park and Greenwich Town district of churches, under the pastoral supervision of Evangelist Derrick Bignall to hold a massive tent crusade in Seaview Gardens. In early October 1985, the members of the churches ventured out into the community of Seaview Gardens and scattered the first set of seeds. A piece of land was cleared in the northwestern section of the community and a large tent was pitched.
On Sunday, October 13, 1985 meeting began (under the tent), under the theme, "Thus saith the Lord". The Holy Spirit worked among His people and at the end of the six week meetings, sixty-nine precious souls began their walk with the Lord. The first set of officers was elected one year later. Our Sabbath School was fully operational under the supervision of the Hagley Park Church.
In the latter part of 1985, we were saddened as Pastor and Sister Bignall bid us goodbye. They however handed us over in the care of Pastor and Sister Claude Brown.
Our spirit was now cheered up by pastors who came at regular intervals to plant more seeds and many more precious souls were born for God's Kingdom.
In September, the devil saw that things were just not going his way so he directed Sir Gilbert who never hesitated but flattened our lighthouse. After all, was said and done our sister opened the doors of her house where we continued to praise God. We couldn't continue for long because of convenience, so we moved to the then abandoned building which now houses the Seaview Gardens Primary School.
In 1992 we managed to stand again on our feet. Amidst the challenges over the years, our lighthouse kept burning. The ripened crop was harvested several times and many surrendered their lives to God. True Adventism has been demonstrated to the community in full measure.
At the age of four, homeless, battered and abused, we were taken from our mother- Hagley Park Seventh-day Adventist Church- and were organized as a company. We were also re-located to a new environment, the Penwood District. With mixed emotions we accepted and they welcomed us with open arms. On August 29, 1992 we officially became the 11th organized churches in East Jamaica Conference.
We are now at 51 Pacific Boulevard under the pastoral guidance of Michael Lewis who continues along with others to shine for Jesus thus leading more to Christ.
